The Addams Family is 80 Years Old
What has now become a Halloween classic, and an inspiration to spook lovers in general, started as a cartoon 80 years ago. Yes, you read that right, The Addams Family is 80 years old! In 1938, Cartoonist Charles Addams had published The Addams Family to challenge what the ideal traditional family looked like. The Addams Family showcased a family that defied what it meant to be "normal" and proceeded to live blissful lives without a care as to how they appeared to others. The Addams Family doesn't at all feel as though they are "outsiders" in a world against them, instead they view themselves as though they are not viewed differently at all.
From single panel cartoons, to live action series, to cartoon series, to movies, The Addams Family continues to live on. In fact, in 2019 we will be seeing yet another tribute to The Addams Family through an animated film that will be released October 11, 2019. The animation is heavily influenced by the original art of Charles Addams, bringing to life some of the original to our generation. The voice cast includes some of our spooky favorites such as Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Bette Midler (Hocus Pocus).
The 1991 and 1993 films (The Addams Family and Addams Family Values) still holds as one of the most favored adaptations of this kooky family. Making it a classic must see Halloween time movie to this day. I don't believe we will ever find ourselves not needing a little bit of the unconventional family to help remind us to be ourselves. Here's to more years of the Addams Family!
