Kink in Cosplay

So why kink in cosplay? [This is not the same as sexualization in cosplay. Such as that sexualization is simply a presentation of sexually charged energy within a cosplay.] I mean kink. It is a lifestyle. It is an aspect of one's self. So where does all that fit into something like cosplay? I believe it is quite simple. Much like cosplay culture, kink has belonged to the group of outcasts. And no matter how popular cosplay or kink becomes, they are still outcast societies. We know who our people are and we know that we have so many niche interests; and tend to take things a little bit over the edge when it comes to what we are passionate about. Cosplay is still very misunderstood by those who consider dressing up as a character on the extreme end. Just like many consider kink to be on the more taboo or "extreme" side of sex/sexual environments.

Escapism is also a commonality between the two communities. Cosplay has often been described as a way to escape the every day and become something else entirely. Whereas kink has also been known to be a point of relief away from the real world. Undertaking different roles and aspects of ourselves, perhaps even our True selves that we don't get to show off to the average day to day. Combined, many find a fantasy in which they can be most comfortable, most themselves.

So why not combine kink and fantasy? That is not to say that the two should be combined. Only that it makes sense why the two communities would merge together so fluidly for those who do participate in both. I see a perfect opportunity through these two mediums to enhance aspects of ourselves and the way we well... play!

**Disclaimer: Kink and other sexual activities should ONLY be engaged between consenting adults and this is in no way an encouragement for minors to participate in sexual activities**
