Question: How long have you been cosplaying?
Answer: I've been exploring cosplay for about 6-9 months. My favorite cosplay by far is Applejack from My Little Pony, but I'm really excited about the Tracer cosplay I'm working on. I think my favorite part of cosplay is seeing the final look that's all put together. Seeing all the work you've done and seeing the character come to life is rewarding in itself.
Question: When did you first experience your hardship in the cosplay world? Answer: I fight my chronic illness every day, so it's been a struggle since the beginning. The hard part is motivating myself to get things done by a deadline.
Question: How do you handle confronting this hardship?
Answer: I have my medication and an action plan etc, but I have to remind myself that it's supposed to be fun. I shouldn't stress the little things. Like I have to tell myself its okay to sit down. But other times I'll get very frustrated that I can't do certain things.
Question: If you don’t mind me asking, how does experiencing chronic pain make you feel?
Answer: I mostly feel drained. Its hard to get up and going most mornings. It's even harder to work on something when all you want to do is sleep. I just have to tell myself it's okay to feel this way. It's okay to take breaks. It's okay to feel like garbage. It's just how life is. Some days are better some days are worse. I just really try to keep my eyes positive and tell myself that if today sucks, keep going because tomorrow will be better.
Question: Do you have any advice to any cosplayers who may be experiencing the same hardship?
Answer: Remember to always listen to what your body is trying to tell you. If you're tired, that's okay. If you're thirsty or hungry, take a break. It's okay to go to the restroom and take your wig off for a little while. Don't let people pull you in for more pictures, politely tell them you need a break. You come first. YOU are important. Also BEWARE after cons you will get sick if you get sick easy.
