Welcome to the Geekdom!

Working for Le Geek So Chic Models

I got the opportunity to work with Le Geek So Chic Models in Stan Lee's Los Angeles Comic Com. Le Geek So Chic is run by Bernadette Bentley who created a traveling fashion show with amazing and lovely designers that mostly create geeky designs. The designer whom I was modeling for was Lauren Matesic of Castle Corsetry and I got to wear one of her amazing Hogwarts House corsets as Slitheryn.

Now this was my first fashion show modeling gig. I have never been on stage. I spent the majority of my life avoiding anything that had to do with presenting myself in front of a group of people. But I jumped at the opportunity regardless. More so as a personal challenge. I have adopted the "Well I haven't done it before" attitude and this was a perfect way to experience something completely new. Everyone was incredibly busy! I was very confused but everything was handled in an organized manner so that I was able to figure everything out quite easily and I tried my best to make everything as easy as I possibly could for the designers and organizers. My best compliments do go out to my fellow models. I do terribly in groups of people... especially new people that I am unfamiliar with. But all the models were super at ease and incredibly nice and not to mention, BEAUTIFUL! I saw ladies of all shapes, sizes, and ages! I have to thank Bernadette for organizing a fashion show full of diversity. It helped me feel at ease and comfortable. I love having people from all sorts of experiences around me and sharing themselves, their personalities, fears, and strengths. They shared they insecurities and confidence. It was amazing and completely supportive!

The piece I was wearing was a classic Castle Corsetry piece and one of her amazing quality Hogwarts corsets. I had never worn a proper and well made corset before. When she strapped me in, my back aligned in such a way that felt incredible! It was hard to move around in though and I opted to wear that corset around for hours. The piece was incredibly well made and has held up really well being one of her older pieces as a testament to her craftsmanship. I was really honored to wear one of her corsets. Especially to wear a Castle Corsetry piece my first time doing a Le Geek So Chick fashion show.

As for going on stage, waiting in a line for each designer group to go up was torture, I was nervous and waiting made me even more anxious. Again, I had never been on stage and thought I was going to mess up big time. I managed it. I went on stage and had meant to keep count of my time on stage as we were supposed to hold 3-4 poses for 3-5 seconds each. However, as soon I was up there, my mind went entirely blank and all I could think of was... well... everything but in one jumbled mess! "Look at the cameras" "Oh crap, has it been 3 seconds?" "Oh look, theres my boyfriend!" "Oh someone cheered my name... who was that?" Luckily my boyfriend had recorded me so I could watch myself. I did mess up, I did not wait as long as I should have but that was my anxiety speeding up time. There were some poses that I know to avoid in the future as well. But it was a learning experience and I was overall impressed by my first time!

I was glad when it was over but strangely found myself wanting to do this again and do better!
