Why I cried at the end of Luke Cage Episode 1

Much like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage is a revolutionary piece of work when it comes to properly dealing with minority perspectives. Here is an entire show with a majority (hell, one can basically say all) person of color cast. This show not only has an all PoC cast, it is one not based on a stereotype or stereotypical humor. These characters are shown to be from various walks of life, various career paths, many that are successful and respectable at that! We have PoC being shown as the villains as well as the heroes; with all of them humanly flawed. Finally we are being shown casting without any tropes based on skin color. Everyone has a role based on the story and plot not on what society would want to see a person of color fit into. Just like Jessica Jones revolutionized how women are portrayed in television and the blatant focus on mental health issues, this show will revolutionize the roles that people of color get thrown into. Why is this making me so emotional? Because this is my first time seeing something like this where an all PoC cast isn't a period piece, or stereotype humor. Is it flawed? Sure, there is always room for improvement, however this show is shattering trends that we see in most modern entertainment. Luke Cage is a literal bulletproof man in a time where gun violence and police violence is making its way into headlines like it hasn't before. During a time where police brutality against people of color and the black community is one of the biggest social discussions on everyone's tongues right now. This is REVOLUTIONARY. This is RELEVANT! Luke Cages words "I am not for hire" are so powerful. A man, a black man, breaking away to make decisions to protect of his own accord and free will brought me to tears and I cannot wait to finish the series. I am still crying.
